Shooting@earth: Peter Kennard and War Boutique
Black Rat Projects presents a unique three day exhibition and installation by artists Peter Kennard and War Boutique. The exhibition will show new print, textile and multi-media works exploring the relationship between citizen, state and commerce, at a moment when these themes couldn’t feel more relevant and urgent.
Peter Kennard will be signing and exhibiting his new book @earth. Published by Tate the book is a photo-essay in seven chapters, a story without words, combining new works, made together with Tarek Salhany, with iconic images from throughout Kennard’s 40-year career. Haunting and unsettling, @earthmakes a powerful statement about the current eco-crisis, the arms race and the injustices dominating today’s world.
War Boutique will be showing recent work, a new print release and launching ‘Civil Commotion’, a participatory shooting gallery installation where the audience is invited to wield a gun at faceless silhouettes of commercial avarice. Referencing ideas of revolution and reversal, with nods to corporate game play and military manoeuvres, it will probe who is really in the firing line, and your own position and complicity within the mechanisms of violence.
